Jamestown

Jamestown is the most exposed ground we work. Wind comes across the island from both sides and salt reaches almost everything, which rules out a long list of plants that would be perfectly happy two miles inland.

What does work here — bayberry, beach plum, juniper, little bluestem, rugosa rose — we plant regularly, and we shape hedges to shed wind rather than catch it. It's a shorter plant list, but the beds still fill in and still look designed.

Many Jamestown properties are seasonal. Our maintenance program means someone is on site weekly year-round, so nothing quietly gets away from you between visits.
